Niël is a practicing emergency physician working in Cape Town, South Africa. He has an
interest in point-of-care ultrasound, toxicology and clinical epidemiology. He is affiliated with
Stellenbosch University as a professor within the Division of Emergency Medicine. His main
research interests are point-of-care ultrasound; local burden of disease; toxicology; and
clinical epidemiology within the broad field of Emergency Medicine. He currently serves on
the Advisory Board of the Western Cape Poison Information Helpline.
