Dr. Peter Clevestig

Technical Expert, EU CBRN Centres of Excellence, Regional Secretariat for the GCC, United Arab Emirates

Dr. Peter Clevestig is a microbiologist specializing in biosecurity, strategic and operational
prevention, preparedness, and response to CBRN incidents, and biological disarmament. He is
currently the technical advisor for the EU CBRN Centres of Excellence for the Gulf Cooperation
Council Countries since 2016 where he supports the Gulf States in enhancing national and regional
preparedness towards CBRN threats and strategic planning for CBRN risk reduction.
He was an Associate Senior Researcher at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute
(SIPRI), where he worked within the Disarmament, Arms Control, and Non-proliferation
Programme. His role involved research and activities for the reduction of risks associated with
chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats, particularly through initiatives in the
Gulf Cooperation Council and Africa.
